Volunteers are the heart of the Grand River Council on Aging. We need volunteers with lived experience to share their voice for positive change in our community. Join our team, everyone is welcome!
Volunteer Opportunities
Ongoing recruitment
All are welcome! We have many volunteer opportunities that can work around your availability. You may assist with more than one volunteer activity depending on your interest.
Orientation: virtually or in-person (30 minutes)
Location: virtual, at-home and in-person volunteer options available
Communications Committee
Create awareness and educate the community.
Examples of how you can get involved:
- Developing and distributing an annual calendar
- Planning and facilitating community at home virtual workshops
- Tending a booth
- Presenting virtually and in-person
- Maintaining databases (Seniors’ Discount Directory, Info Hub)
- Creating/proofing marketing materials ex. Social media, newsletter, website
- Planning and assisting with community workshops
Time commitment: 1 committee meeting per month (1 hour) and monthly tasks. Hours will vary depending on your availability. We welcome all applications!
Fundraising – Urgent Need!
Assist with fundraising activities, such as: special events (The Grand Parade), soliciting sponsorships and campaigns.
Examples of how you can get involved:
- Help organize and attend special event fundraisers
- Develop planned giving and major gifting opportunities
- Communicate with new and past sponsors
- Maintain sponsorship database and relationships
Time commitment: 1 committee meeting per month (1 hour) and monthly tasks, heaviest from January – June (3-4 hours a week). Hours will vary depending on your availability. We welcome all applications!
Housing Committee
Identify and promote affordable, accessible, and equitable housing options for seniors.
Examples of how you can get involved:
- Housing Guide for Seniors Task Force
- Identifying naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCS)
Time commitment: Hours will vary depending on your availability. We welcome all applications!
Volunteer Committee – New Opportunity!
Recruit and orient volunteers to the GRCOA volunteer program.
Examples of how you can get involved:
- Promote volunteering
- Organize volunteer appreciation events, recognition and retention activities
- Attend community events
Time commitment: Hours will vary depending on your availability. We welcome all applications!
Board Member
Are you passionate about improving the lives of older adults? We are seeking board members who are dedicated to creating lasting change.
We seek passionate community members with a strong commitment to the mission of the GRCOA to join our Board of Directors. Ideal candidates may possess expertise in the following backgrounds: communications and marketing, governance and strategic thinking, fund development, human resources, volunteer management, finance and accounting and organizational/business management. A strong willingness to advocate for our cause and the ability to collaborate effectively is required.

- Strategic oversight
- Financial stewardship
- Governance and accountability
- Organizational development
- Community engagement
- Fundraising
Time commitment: 15+hours a month. We welcome all applications!
